SERVICES AND CONSULTANCY
Caruso Jewellery in Naples have always offered all their customers a professional service for making jewellery on a commission basis.
The technical expertise is the examination carried out by a qualified expert with the aim of attributing a set of parameters to a jewel that define it from an architectural and aesthetic point of view.
A technical expertise that is performed correctly is based on the analysis of gemmological materials:
Type of metals used
Type of production
Analysis of the state of use
A technical expertise may or may not contain a valuation report. It’s generally requested for a jewel or a gem that has never been evaluated and whose owners or recipients (e.g. heirs, assignees and so on) intend or need to know the value, or to confirm the value of a jewel or gem since the time of purchase, or again, in a dispute, both judicial and extrajudicial, to fix the terms of a compensation or fraud.
It consists in the attribution of a value to a jewel, using parameters that are based on the real market conditions.
Any valuation that wants to be formulated in a reliable manner must be based on a correct technical expertise. The valuation involves market variables that are strictly connected to both materials and the type of production.
The valuation must also be set at a defined date and indicate the segment of the reference market. In general, the valuation can be of two types:
Business valuation: average retail value
Asset valuation: value at the first marketing level, which corresponds to the value of the materials plus the costs of recovering the materials themselves
Once all the previous steps are completed, the goldsmith or the stone setter (person in charge of inserting the gems in the jewels) has to set the previously chosen stones within the segments. It’s a delicate stage that requires a lot of experience and attention, as well as many hours of meticulous and precise work.
Repairing family jewels is one of the most requested activities by our customers. At Caruso Jewellery in Naples it’s possible to carry out repairs, cleaning and rhodium plating in order to give new life to your precious object. The times and ways to satisfy customers’ requests are variable and depend on the types of change the goldsmith will have to make on the jewels left in custody.
It often happens to receive specific requests from people who want to know if it’s possible to make a jewel on commission, something unique in design, materials and gems. Creating personalised jewellery is a job that requires experience and skills, time and passion, but it’s the only way to obtain an ad hoc jewel and we at Caruso Jewellery strongly believe that this is the real job of the jeweller – to create extraordinary jewels from unique beauty, which is difficult to replicate.
In the initial stage of creating a jewel, the customer’s wishes, desires and what they really want to achieve are clarified. The jewellery, in this case, is like a custom-made clothing store – the work of creating a jewel on commission is like tailoring. Subsequently the jewel’s measures, weights and design are defined. Its creation can start after a correct stage of design and can continue through a laborious artisan handicraft.
Our craft workshop has specific equipment to make rubber (wax) based on the project agreed with the customer. This stage is not mandatory but is recommended for maximum precision.
All the various segments of the rubber jewel are then replaced by the chosen metal (Ag-Au-Pt) through a type of fusion called “lost-wax casting”. The wax is inserted into a mould and the molten material is poured through a hole at high temperature. The wax melts and the material chosen for the jewel takes its place.
